Dear Families, We are thankful for you! As we prepare to take time off from school for the Thanksgiving break (11/23-11/25), we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security, especially after the chaotic transitions experienced over the last two years. As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers. We thank: Our students and their families who do their best to show up to class every day even when it isn’t easy. Our teachers who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive. Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we are healthy and safe, feel a sense of community and experience the excitement of an engaging learning environment. Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need. May these days off be restful and healing. ● If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to Auburn Powell (K-6) or Paul Zysk (7-12) for help. Call the main office at 906-932-0932. ● We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on November 28. Thank you for partnering with us! Sincerely, Melissa Nigh, Principal Dan Martinson, Assistant Principal

Friday, after the Veterans Day program, 2 of the Cadets came into Mrs. Balchik's class and answered questions the 4th graders had about the program and what they did during the ceremony. Thank you John and Bella for teaching my students about this important ceremony.

The sixth graders learned about tides and currents as they listened to one of 167 podcasts as they walked the track and enjoyed the nice weather. The Walking Classroom devices are a great supplement to our curriculum.

Absenteeism has a big impact on a student's academic performance. A student who is considered on track has attended at least 95% of the current school days. Have questions or concerns about your child's attendance? Contact the office to get an attendance check up on your child.

A huge shout out to Mrs. Stehlik & her students for bringing Mrs. Lavinder's vision to life! She asked for a large hat/mitten tree for her students. With just a photo and approximate size info, her students created this simple yet effective final product.

Notes from Mrs. Jacisin about a school visitor a paraprofessional and two students brought to her this morning. Golden-crowned kinglet. This little bird can be found here year round although some will migrate south. Diet consists of bugs. These two little birds were sitting on the sidewalk in an energy saving technique called torpor. They lower their body temperature, heart rate and cellular respiration to conserve body fat and energy. When the temperatures rise and it is light out they will shiver to generate heat and come out of torpor. One of the little birds warmed up in the hands of the student and within seconds of being placed on my hand flew off. The other little bird took longer. These birds live in conifers and consume bugs. In the winter they find hibernating bugs on the pine needles. They weigh less than a nickel.
